The Stinger Labs focuses on
eclectic robotics and automation (ERA),
integrating ideas and concepts from disparate fields into
robotics and automation. Taking a systems perspective, we
aim to understand the causality and inheritance of the
subdisciplines within a robotic system to enhance system
reconfigurability and rapid deployment which are essential
in situations of distress and imminent danger. With this
approach, the Stinger Labs seeks to become the impetus
for the new ERA in field robotics, where humans are
removed from dangerous working environments and
conditions.
Our research focuses on field robotics with emphasis
in cooperative and coordinated multi-robot systems and
cyber-enabled manufacturing technologies.
Our applications include search and rescue operations,
remote Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO),
automated structure development, small scale assembly,
and space robotics for planetary reconnaissance.
